Taiping Monkey origins in Houkeng, Houcun, and Yanjia these three villages in the Houkeng area of Xinming town in Yellow Mountain district. The tea gardens are mostly located on areas over 350-meter high of the mountains. Some tea gardens cover a huge area, such as Fenghuangjian, Shixingjian, Jiulonggang, Wulipei, etc. Taiping Monkey’s color, flavor, taste, and appearance are in a class by itself. It has the distinguishing feature of “swords and spears gathering & dragons and phoenixes dancing”. Each set of tea consists of two leaves embracing a bud, oblate and straight, commonly referred to as “two swords and one spear, never be loose, snubby, and curly.” The tint of leaves is green, even, and rubricating. The vein of leaves is green with red visible, commonly considered as “red thread”. It is covered with concealed pekoe. Brew it in the water, and then the leaves and buds would turn into blooms, floating and sinking in the green limpid water, just like some little monkeys are making shows for you. Have a taste, and then a faint fragrance would assail the nostrils instantly. It tastes mellow and fresh, with an excellent aftertaste. Its first infusion is of strong aroma, second is of strong taste, third and fourth are of lasting light fragrance, with a particular “Hou lasting appeal”.
